Quite simply…
We’re here to make the news easy
Since our launch in 2017, we’ve been on a mission to give busy people a shortcut to being informed.
What drives us
Helping women with the news
The Squiz is for everyone, but women are at the core of The Squiz. When we sit down each day, we have our time-poor, information-hungry girlfriends in mind. We also know that women are Australia’s leading news avoiders... The Squiz is a big shout-out to her with our helpful and approachable news products.
We believe in agenda-free news
It’s hard not to notice how much ‘news’ produced by the legacy media outlets is actually opinion. It’s shouty and it’s often aligned to interests that aren’t always obvious. The Squiz is our response to help Aussies stay above all of that. We do the hard work for you to find the facts and curate perspectives. You’re a smart person - you don’t need to be told what to think...
An informed Australia is a good thing…
…so we’re doing our bit. The Squiz is free and independent to ensure Aussies have access to top quality news. We also invest heavily in helping our next generations have the tools to become critical consumers of news and information online. Made to be taught in classrooms, our Newshounds program for 7-12yos is leading the way globally to build kids' media literacy.
Our approach
Routine and curation
We love reading/watching/listening to the news but we also understand you don’t have the time to get across all the channels to get a handle on what’s going on in the world. We do that hard work for you each day via our expertly curated newsletters and podcasts that are out at 6am each weekday morning - right when you need it.
We remove assumed knowledge
Have you ever seen a huge and complex news story break and tried to get handle on it - but you can’t break through the jargon or recall the backstory? The Squiz is for you. Our news experts get across it, and then we’ll take you through it with the facts and context that matters.
Light and shade
A relentless stream of heavy news can get even the best of us news junkies down… What we do is bring you the headlines without needlessly sensationalising it. And we’ll also balance your news diet with the fun and quirky stuff too.
