Schools Lead, Newshounds (South Australia)
Company: Squiz Media
Location: Sydney, NSW

Australia’s leading media literacy program for primary school students has just signed a strategic partnership with the South Australian government to bring Newshounds to every classroom in the state.
We can’t wait to help deliver on Premier Malinauskas’ vision to have every primary-school aged South Australia between the age of 8-12 learning vital critical thinking skills to help them separate online fact from fiction.
And we’re looking for someone to help us …
Schools Lead, Newshounds (South Australia)
The Schools Lead is the face of Newshounds in South Australian classrooms. This is a hands-on, relationship-driven role for someone who understands how schools in SA work and knows how to get teachers and students genuinely excited about news and media literacy. Working closely with the Director of Newshounds, the Schools Lead is responsible for building and maintaining the school network that makes Newshounds tick and for bringing the classroom perspective back into the program so it keeps getting better.
What you'll do
● Contribute to the development of new Newshounds content and resources, bringing a teacher and student lens to everything we make;
● Build and manage relationships with the SA Department of Education, SA schools, teachers and education networks to develop and promote participation in the Newshounds program;
● Deliver teacher training and onboarding, ensuring educators have everything they need to bring Newshounds into their classrooms;
● Act as the primary point of contact for schools, responding to their needs and advocating for them internally;
● Work creatively with the Director of Newshounds to improve and evolve the program based on what you see and hear in classrooms;
● Identify opportunities to deepen school engagement and grow participation across SA.
What you bring
● A background in education or a deep understanding of how schools, classrooms and teachers operate;
● Genuine enthusiasm for news, media literacy and the role journalism plays in a healthy democracy;
● Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people;
● Creative instincts and a desire to help build something, not just deliver it.
