Ecuador has been relatively stable in a part of the world not known for it, but in recent years, political leaders have struggled to control criminal groups running the lucrative drug trade. The 35yo Noboa has been the nation’s leader since late November – Fernando Villavicencio, a candidate he ran against, was assassinated during the campaign after speaking out against gangs and corruption.
